Math Excellence at Vanguard: 2026 Pi Math Contest & Math Jams Results

It has been an incredible season of problem-solving at Vanguard Gifted Academy. Our students recently stepped up to the challenge of distinct mathematics competitions, showcasing the persistence, logic, and critical thinking skills that define our community. We are incredibly proud of how every student approached these complex problems with curiosity and grit.

Pi Math Contest (PiMC) Highlights

Our Band Two students participated in the prestigious 2026 Pi Math Contest, organized by AlphaStar Academy. This competition is designed to push students beyond the standard curriculum, requiring them to apply mathematical concepts in creative and unexpected ways.

The Pi Math Contest aims to foster a love of mathematics and recognize outstanding young problem-solvers across three divisions: Euler (3rd–5th grade), Fermat (6th–8th grade), and Gauss (high school). At Vanguard, our Band Two mathematicians competed in the Euler division, tackling 25 rigorous questions.

Special Shout-Out to our Top Scorer:

  • Benton: Earned a remarkably high score and was awarded a Bronze Certificate, placing him in the top tier of participants nationwide!

Scoring Breakdown:

  • Correct Answer: 10 points

  • Blank Answer: 1 point (rewarding students for recognizing difficulty)

  • Incorrect Answer: 0 points

Digital certificates will be available after the final name-correction window closes on April 15. If any of our students qualify for the Final Round in the San Francisco Bay Area this June, additional details will be shared later this month.

Band One: Math Jams Online

While our older students tackled the paper-based PiMC, our Band One students engaged in the Math Jams online math competition.

This digital platform offers a dynamic way for our younger learners to build fluency and foundational problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment. By focusing on Math Jams, our Band One students practiced "mathematical agility," building the confidence they need for future advanced competitions. Great job to all our young participants for diving into these challenges!

The Vanguard Way

Participating in these contests is about much more than the final score; it’s about the journey of "learning how to think." Whether it was a 3rd grader tackling their first PiMC or a Band One student mastering a new logic puzzle in Math Jams, these experiences are vital to our STREAM-focused mission.
