Springing Into Action: A Busy Season at Vanguard Gifted Academy

It has been an incredible year so far, and as we move into these final months, we are committed to finding new ways to improve and learn every single day. We just wrapped up the Noetic Math Contest, but our calendar is still packed with opportunities for our students to shine and for the community to connect with us.

Here is a look at what is coming up:

April Events: History, Community, and Celebration

  • Discovery Day Open House: Join us this Saturday, April 11th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for our open house. It is a wonderful chance to see our school in action.

  • Historical Society Visit (4/14): We are excited to host the historical society. I’ll be sharing reproduction photographs and hands-on artifacts while we explore why Batavia was founded, the nature of early local jobs, and how our town’s businesses influenced westward expansion and the Civil War.

  • Earth Day & Field Trip (4/22): We will celebrate our planet and take a neighborhood walk for a field trip to Valor Carts.

  • Heritage Woods Sock Hop (4/24): Following the success of our "Mad Hatter Tea Party," we are returning to Heritage Woods for a fun-filled Sock Hop!

  • Flag Presentation (4/27): Our students will be honored with an American flag. Band One will learn the tradition of flag folding, and we will practice the Pledge of Allegiance and "The Star-Spangled Banner."

  • Volunteer Fair (4/28): Look for me out in the community at the Batavia Public Library for the local Volunteer Fair.

May Highlights: Engineering and Innovation

  • NIU Engineering Fair (5/1): Our students are looking forward to visiting the NIU Convocation Center for the Senior Design Showcase. They will have the chance to see over 50 capstone projects, talk to student teams about their work, and learn what it takes to become an engineer.

  • CASA Resource Fair (5/1): While students are exploring engineering, Mrs. Trujillo will be at the CASA Resource Fair sharing more about Vanguard and providing hands-on activities for attendees.

  • Julia Robinson Math Festival (5/2): Join us from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for this event! It is free and open to the public—perfect for young mathematicians.

  • Public Works & May the Fourth (5/4): We will walk to the Public Works building for a field trip. Students are also encouraged to dress in their favorite Star Wars attire to celebrate "May the Fourth Be With You."

  • Student Showcase & Riverside Pizza Spirit Day (5/13): A big day for school spirit and showing off student hard work!

  • SciTech Visit (5/18): We are hoping to welcome SciTech to our campus for a day of discovery.

  • Energy Whiz & Last Day of School (5/20): We will spend May 19th building for the Energy Whiz finale on May 20th, which also marks our final day of the school year.

Looking Ahead to Summer

  • Innovation Odyssey (6/1): Our summer program officially kicks off!

  • STREAM Summer Outreach (6/5): Join us for the kickoff of our free summer outreach program, bringing Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to the community.

We are so proud of the growth our students have shown this year, and we can't wait to see you at these upcoming events!
