From Potential to Proficiency: Celebrating Growth and Creative Problem Solving at Vanguard Gifted Academy
At Vanguard Gifted Academy, our mission is to guide gifted children toward a life of discovery, empowerment, and innovation. We believe in personalizing education by creating authentic learning experiences that meet our students where they are and then challenge them to reach further. This spring, our students did exactly that, demonstrating remarkable growth and resilience in the Spring 2026 Noetic Learning Math Contest.
Measuring Growth: Fall to Spring
When we look back at our performance in the Fall 2025 session, we see a community of learners who were just beginning to flex their competitive problem-solving muscles. In the fall, our band one students saw a top score of 20. Fast forward to this spring, and that same band achieved a total team score of 180, with individual top scores jumping to 60.
Our band two students showed similar dedication. After a strong fall performance, they returned this spring to achieve a massive collective score of 390. This trajectory is a clear indicator that our students are not just learning math—they are learning how to tackle "messy" problems with confidence.
The Vanguard Way: Nurturing the Analytical Mind
This growth isn't accidental; it is a direct result of the Vanguard Model. We understand that gifted children require more than just advanced content—they need an environment that nurtures strong mental habits. By helping children adopt these "habits of mind," our teachers enable them to find authentic pathways to solving problems using their own ideas and devising their own plans.
Our students don't just memorize formulas. They delve deeply into content, ask probing questions, and build complex understandings. We embrace the unique characteristics of every child, kindling their willingness to reach beyond their current abilities and worldviews.
Creative Problem Solving in Action
Unique to Vanguard is our commitment to fostering innovative thinking. Our students work in a purposefully flexible space that complements our open-ended learning model. This flexibility minimizes the "expectation of perfection" and allows students to embrace a range of possibilities and diverse perspectives.
We are incredibly proud of the following students who demonstrated this creative and analytical spirit this season:
Team Winners: Aiden, Benton, Evan, and Halis. In addition, Benton earned spots on the National Honor Roll, while Gilbert and Katherine achieved National Honorable Mention status. This success is particularly notable given the overall impact of the contest, which saw 43,905 students participate from 853 schools across 45 states.
A Community of Discovery
As Sir Ken Robinson once said, the aim of education is to enable students to understand the world around them and the talents within them. At Vanguard, we model this by offering students opportunities to engage with authentic audiences—such as our Showcase Nights—who affirm the validity of their learning.
The results from this year’s math contests are more than just numbers on a page; they are a reflection of students who are poised to become confident, resilient adults. We celebrate their personal success and their growing ability to act on opportunities to better their world. Congratulations to all our mathletes on a year of incredible improvement and discovery!
