Rediscovering the Joy of Math: Join Our Community Math Circle

At Vanguard Gifted Academy, we believe that mathematics is much more than a list of formulas or a series of drills. It is a language of patterns, a toolkit for creative problem-solving, and—above all—a grand adventure.

We are thrilled to invite the Batavia community to join us for our Community Math Circle. This free program is designed to move math out of the textbook and into the hands of elementary school students, making it accessible, engaging, and genuinely fun for everyone.

What is a Math Circle?

A Math Circle is a unique, interactive environment that looks very different from a traditional classroom. Instead of focusing on "getting the right answer" as quickly as possible, we focus on:

  • Collaborative Problem-Solving: Working together to untangle tricky challenges.

  • Creative Thinking: Finding multiple ways to approach the same puzzle.

  • Playful Exploration: Using games and logic puzzles to discover mathematical beauty.

Each monthly meeting introduces a new theme or challenge, encouraging students to explore logic and patterns in a low-pressure setting. We want children to walk away realizing that math isn't just a subject they "have" to do—it's something they want to play with.

Something for the Grownups, Too

We know that curiosity doesn't have an age limit. While the students are busy with their challenges, we invite the "grownups" to participate in their own puzzle-solving sessions in a separate room. Whether you are a math enthusiast or someone who hasn't looked at a logic puzzle in years, it is a great way to engage your own brain while your child explores.

Join Us for the Inaugural Event

Our first meeting is the perfect opportunity to see what a Math Circle is all about. This event is free and open to all elementary school students, regardless of where they attend school.

How to Register

While the event is free, we do ask that families register in advance. This helps us ensure we have plenty of materials, snacks, and space for all our young mathematicians and their families.
