Bringing New Math Innovations to Vanguard Gifted Academy
We are absolutely thrilled to share some wonderful news with our community! This summer, Vanguard Gifted Academy has been formally invited to participate in the prestigious Math Circle Institute at the University of Notre Dame.
From July 13th through the 18th, our team will be diving deep into the world of mathematics pedagogy, problem-solving, and collaboration. Our Head of School, Mrs. Trujillo, will be attending the intensive week-long program in its entirety. Additionally, Mrs. McCarney will be joining for a portion of the training, specifically attending the concluding Math Festival on Saturday to see these engaging strategies in action!
This is a fantastic opportunity to gather fresh inspiration to bring back to our students in Batavia, specifically enriching our upcoming sessions for the Fox River Valley Math Circle. Facilitated by the Riverbend Community Math Center, the program brings together educators to explore new ways to make math engaging, challenging, and accessible.
Throughout the week, the professional development schedule includes:
Math Circle Philosophy and Pedagogy: Discussing the core principles of fostering a genuine love for mathematical exploration.
Sample Math Circles: Experiencing hands-on, parallel sessions to observe different interactive teaching styles.
Topic Workshops and Collaboration: Working alongside other dedicated educators to develop new curriculum, activities, and approaches.
Saturday Math Jam and Festival: A collaborative problem-solving event to cap off the week's learning, which Mrs. McCarney will be observing to gather firsthand ideas for our own campus events.
We are incredibly honored to be included in this program. Continuous learning is at the heart of what we do, and we cannot wait to translate these experiences into exciting math adventures for our students this coming school year.
Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare for this incredible learning journey!
