Redesigning Education: Vanguard Gifted Academy Named an “Influential Face of 2026”

We are incredibly proud to share that Vanguard Gifted Academy has been named one of the "Influential Faces of 2026" by Persona Tri-Cities magazine.

While we are thrilled to be featured alongside so many of the Tri-Cities' most innovative leaders, to us, this recognition is much more than a plaque on the wall. It is a profound validation of a movement that started right here in Batavia—a public acknowledgment of what Vanguard stands for, the children we serve, and the visionary foundation we were built upon.

When our retired founder, Elizabeth Blaetz, opened the doors to Vanguard Gifted Academy, she did so with a courageous realization: the traditional "assembly line" model of education was simply not academically adequate for gifted children. She saw that gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) learners were spending their most valuable learning time waiting. Waiting for a curriculum to catch up to them, waiting for the next grade level, or waiting for an environment where their unique minds could truly thrive.

Elizabeth knew these children deserved better, so she built an educational sanctuary designed entirely around them.

Today, our dedicated team stands firmly on that exact foundation. We unapologetically reject the idea that chronological age should dictate a child’s educational ceiling. Instead, we group our students in multi-aged bands based on their readiness to learn. We meet our gifted learners exactly where they are, and then we challenge them.

By dismantling traditional grade levels and blending knowledge across academic domains, we do more than just teach. We empower our students to engage in complex problem-solving. We build cognitive flexibility. We nurture the strong mental habits and resilience that gifted children need to confidently step into an ever-changing world and better their communities.

This award belongs to the brilliant, beautifully complex students who walk through our doors every day. It belongs to the families who trust us, and it is a tribute to Elizabeth's unwavering belief that education must fit the child.

We are honored to carry this legacy forward, and our momentum has never been stronger. This summer, we are putting our innovation into action through our Innovation Odyssey program and our newly launched, free STREAM community outreach kits. Looking ahead, we are actively expanding our footprint with a capital campaign for a new outdoor STREAM Natural Hub and Creek Lab—ensuring our students have even more hands-on, authentic environments to explore.

Thank you to the Batavia and Tri-Cities community for standing with us, and thank you to Persona Tri-Cities for celebrating specialized, innovative education.
